Safe Hiking in Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park, under the advice of state and local health officials, is starting to increase its recreational access and services. Working with federal, state, and local health authorities the National Park Service is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and released a phased approach to increase access to the park.

Starting Wednesday, May 6, Bryce Canyon will reopen access to:

  • The main park road and all viewpoints to Rainbow Point
  • Restrooms at Sunset Point (only available restrooms within the park)
  • Trails within the Bryce Amphitheater area

Keeping public health in mind, the following facilities will remain closed:

  • Park Visitor Center and fee booths
  • Park campgrounds
  • Mossy Cave parking and trail area
  • Backcountry trails including the Under the Rim trail and campsites
  • Park concessions facilities

The health and safety of visitors, park employees and volunteers is a high priority for Bryce Canyon National Park. Operations will be monitored frequently, ensuring that all park functions and services adhere to current public health guidance. Using CDC guidance and guidelines, Bryce Canyon is working to provide a safe and clean environment for visitors, employees and volunteers. While visitors can enjoy these areas, a full return to normal operations will be phased and services may be limited.

The CDC offers guidance to help the public parks and areas while still preventing the spread of COVID-19. Bryce Canyon will monitor park functions to ensure visitors are following CDC mitigation guidelines, and take any necessary steps to safeguard public health.

While enjoying Bryce Canyon’s available areas, the public is encouraged to follow local health orders, practice the Leave No Trace principles, avoid crowds, practice social distancing, and avoid high-risk activities.
